Celebrating a Trailblazer: Dame Jane Glover Receives the Musicians Club of Women 150th Anniversary Founders Award

Musicians Club of Women is excited to announce a momentous occasion at our upcoming 150th Anniversary Gala. It is with great pride that we will be presenting the prestigious Founders Award to none other than Dame Jane Glover, a revered figure in the classical music world. This award celebrates her extraordinary impact as an educator and conductor.

A Career of Groundbreaking Achievements

Dame Jane Glover’s career spans over five decades, marked by pioneering achievements and significant contributions to classical music. She burst onto the scene with her professional debut at the Wexford International Opera Festival in 1975. Since then, her talents have led her to the most illustrious opera houses in the world, such as Covent Garden in London, Glyndebourne, and The Metropolitan Opera in New York.

Her influence extends beyond these grand stages, having conducted major orchestras like the New York Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony Orchestra. Dame Jane has also made significant marks in the realms of classical music recording and broadcasting globally. Since 2002, she has served as the Music Director of Chicago’s Music of the Baroque and was the former music director of the London Mozart Players. Her leadership and scholarship, notably through her books such as Mozart’s Women, Mozart in Italy, and Handel in London, have established her as one of the foremost authorities on classical music.

Commitment to Educating the Next Generation

Dame Jane’s dedication to education shines through in her role as the Mendelssohn Emeritus Professor of Music at the Royal Academy of Music and her leadership in the Glover-Edwards Conducting Program. These positions underscore her commitment to nurturing young talents and promoting future generations of women conductors.

Her remarkable contributions to music were recognized when she was appointed Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire by Prince Charles (now King Charles III) in Queen Elizabeth II’s 2021 New Year’s Honours.

Catch Dame Jane in Action

Before she graces our gala, Dame Jane Glover will be conducting the Chicago Symphony Orchestra in "Glover Conducts English Classics" from February 20 - 22. Moreover, she will conduct Music of the Baroque in "Mozart and his Mentors" on April 6 - 7, just prior to our gala. These performances are not to be missed and will surely be an inspiration to all who attend.
